However, please feel free to move this post to the correct section as needed.ġ. Please ask me if you need more info to better understanding the issue.Īlso since it's not actually an Ubuntu issue so I don't post this on AskUbuntu. Suspecting the new HDD but on Windows it works fine. When I try to force restart, the OS also didn't load. Didn't take a note but it was an error of removing something. And as far as I can see the disk's used space was only several hundred MBs.Īnother time I got as far as "Finishing installation" screen with xUbuntu, but then it hangs with some error. PCIE Bus Error: severity=Corrected, type=Physical Layer (Receiver ID) device error status/mask=00000001/0002000 R圎rr Once I get to do the install done, but when restarted the laptop, the OS was not loading at all. On other occassion the screen went black and generating millions of text saying: This also needs several tries as sometimes it hangs too. When the HDD only contains 1 NTFS partition, the installer refused to continue when I select "Erase everything".ĭid a workaround by booting from Live USB and choose "Try Elementary OS" then use gParted to create partitions (swap, root, home, boot, tmp, var). When HDD was unformatted, the installer cannot see the disk. Most of the time the installation just hangs at different steps, but mostly when I choose "Something else" and trying to partition the destination drive. Also, I think if I have trouble installing Elementary / xUbuntu then it should the same with Ubuntu. I know I can customize KDE/GTK (still not sure which the right term to use to refer to Linux's desktop visual theme) but I just want to try something else. Haven't tried vanilla Ubuntu yet but I prefer Elementary OS / xUbuntu for the visual. Mostly trying to install Elementary OS 5.1, and tried to install latest xUbuntu once.

Tried 3 devices for Live USB: (1) very old Kingston DataTraveler 8GB USB 2 (always use this to install Windows XP/7/8/10 and works great) (2) 1year-old SanDisk USB 3.0 Dual OTG 16GB, has some problems but still works okay (3) brand new SanDisk class10 32GB microSD connected via USB card reader CHKDSK done very quickly and found no problem. Formatted to Fat32 with no problem on Windows 10. Mounted in the only HDD bay inside the laptop as the only drive. Destination drive is brand new WD Blue WD10SPZX 1TB 2.5" HDD. It's my first time installing Elementary but I've used Ubuntu years ago with Wubi on Windows 7, and now I use Ubuntu shell on Windows 10. I'm trying to install Elementary OS 5.1 Hera but always run into problems.
